General Information on Testosterone Cypionate
Testosterone Cypionate is a prescription drug which belongs to the class of anabolic steroids. It used for increasing the level of testosterone hormone in males. Testosterone hormone in males is responsible for development of sexual organs and other secondary characteristics such as facial hair, scrotum etc. The drug works by injecting an oil like substance which contains testosterone hormone. The body then keeps absorbing testosterone slowly through this oil like substance, hence regulating the level of testosterone in the body.
Precautions/side effects of Testosterone Cypionate
Patients allergic to any of the ingredients of testosterone cypionate should refrain from using this drug. An allergic reaction to the drug can lead to itching and rashes of the skin and in severe cases can lead to inflammation of the lips, mouth or tongue. Other than that, patients with breast cancer, prostate cancer, liver disease, kidney disease or low sperm count should take this drug only after consultation with a doctor.
The drug is also known to react with certain medications such as blood thinners like Warfarin, corticosteroids like prednisone, corticone etc. and insulin. Patients on any of these drugs should consult a doctor before taking testosterone cypionate.
Testosterone cypionate is also known to have certain side effects such as acne, headache, increased facial growth and male pattern baldness. However, in certain cases, serious side effects may show up to the drug such as nausea, jaundice, unusual weight gain, irregular heartbeat, depression etc. If any of these symptoms show up after taking a drug, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
Important safety information
- Testosterone cypionate is known to decrease sperm count. Thus, patients who are trying to conceive should refrain from using this drug.
- Diabetes patients should go for regular blood sugar tests while on testosterone cypionate, as the drug is known to affect blood glucose levels.
- Patients above the age of 60 years should use this medicine with caution as it is known to have adverse effects in geriatric patients.
- Testosterone cypionate is not for us in patients below the age of 18 years.
Dosage of testosterone cypionate
Testosterone cypionate is available in 100mg/ml and 200mg/ml vials. The usual dosage of the drug is 50 to 400 mg every three to four weeks. However, the actual dosage depends on the case at hand.
Testosterone cypionate should not be taken as an injection. It is not for oral use. Oral use of the drug renders the drug ineffective. When taken orally, the drug passes through the intestine before going in the bloodstream. The testosterone in the drug gets neutralized in the intestine, thus having little effect on testosterone levels in the body.
Testosterone cypionate should be taken intramuscularly and should never be taken intravenously. Overdose of the drug should be avoided at all costs. Overdose of the drug can cause serious symptoms such as prolonged erection, seizures, jaundice etc. which need immediate medical attention.
Storage of testosterone cypionate
Testosterone cypionate should be stored at room temperature, in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight. It should be kept out of reach of children and pets at all times.
