Proviron (mesterolone)
What is Proviron?
Proviron, with active ingredient mesterolone, is a prescription drug used for treating hypogonadism in men. Hypogonadism is a condition where the levels of testosterone fall in the body thus affecting the sexual prowess in men. The drug works by replacing testosterone in the body when not enough is produced in the body. The levels of testosterone usually fall in the body with increasing age. The drug is used for treatment in men only.
Precautions/side effects of Proviron
Proviron contains the active ingredient mesterolone. Patients allergic to mesterolone should refrain from taking this drug. Other than that, patients with tumors in the liver, prostate cancer or high calcium levels in the blood should refrain from taking this drug. Patients with heart disease, epilepsy, diabetes, kidney diseases or high blood pressure or patients who suffer form migraine attack should take Proviron only after consultation with a doctor.
The drug is also known to react with certain medications such as blood thinners like Warfarin, medications used for treating diabetes, thyroxine, cyclosporine etc. This is not a complete list of medications known to react with Proviron. Patients on any of these drugs or other prescription medicines should take Proviron only after consultation with a doctor.
Proviron is also known to have certain side effects such as prolonged erection, loss of appetite, mood swings etc. However, in certain cases, serious side effects may show up to the drug such as blood in the urine or blood in ejaculation, unexplained weight gain or weight loss, depression, severe acne, pain in the abdomen, pain the pelvic area etc. If any of these symptoms show up after taking Proviron, a doctor should be consulted immediately.

Important safety information
- Proviron should not be given to anybody else with the same symptoms as yours unless prescribed by the doctor.
- It is important to undergo regular lab tests while using Proviron. In some cases, internal bleeding in the abdomen has been reported after the use of Proviron. The drug is also known to lead to liver tumors in very rare cases.
- Any pain in the abdomen after taking Proviron must be brought to the notice of a doctor immediately.
Dosage of Proviron
Proviron is available as tablets for oral administration. The usual dosage of the drug is three times daily. However, the exact dosage of the drug may differ depending on the diagnosis and the response of the patient.
Proviron can be taken with or without food. However, overdose of the drug should be avoided at all costs. If a dose is missed, it should be had as soon as possible. However, it should not be clubbed with the next dose. Overdose of Proviron can lead to severe symptoms such as painful erections, bloody ejaculations etc. which require immediate medical attention.
Storage of Proviron
Proviron should be stored at room temperature, in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight. It should not be stored in a bathroom or near a sink. It should be kept out of reach of children as well as pets at all times.
