Testosterone belongs to the class of medications called androgens (male hormones). This medication is used to replace testosterone in males who have conditions caused by low testosterone levels due to castration (removal of testes). It is also used to treat impotence (erectile difficulty, or the inability to attain or maintain an erection) and other male sexual problems when they are due to low testosterone levels. Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. It is very important that this medication be used on a regular schedule. Recommended dosage: Men: The usual adult dose of testosterone in men ranges from 100 mg to 400 mg injected every 3 to 10 weeks in the gluteus maximus muscle (buttocks). The dose and length of treatment will depend on your condition, and your response to the medication. Men and women: The usual recommended dose to achieve anabolic (to increase muscles or bones) effect is 200 mg to 400 mg injected every 3 to 4 weeks. The dose could be adjusted depending on the individual's age, gender, and condition. |
