Relpax (eletripan) precautions

Before taking eletriptan, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other "triptan" migraine drugs; or if you have any other allergies. Do not take Relpax if you have Allergies to Relpax or any of its ingredients.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have risk factors for heart disease including: high cholesterol level, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking history, family history of heart disease or stroke, obesity.

Caution is also recommended in women after menopause or after removal of the ovaries, and men over 40 years old because of an increased risk for undiagnosed heart disease.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: excessive weight gain, other blood circulation problems (e.g., Raynaud's syndrome).

Relpax is generally well tolerated by most people. However, some people should not take it. Do not take Relpax if you have any of the following: chest pain (angina), history of heart attack(s), other heart or blood vessel disease (e.g., coronary artery disease with vasospasm or ischemia), uncontrolled high blood pressure, history of stroke(s), other types of headaches (hemiplegic or basilar migraines), certain blood circulation problems (e.g., peripheral vascular disease, ischemic bowel disease), severe liver disease.

If Relpax is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to tell your doctor about any other medications you are taking or plan to take.

This drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages.

Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to its side effects.

This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. This drug passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
